This time we’ve talked to Eugeniusz. As a Designer, he makes sure our product, website and all other materials look amazing.
Hi Eugeniusz (aka Eugene)! What’s your story? Where are you from, and where are you living now?
I was born in Ukraine in a small city near Kyiv, where I lived until I went to Poland for university and then stayed there. I now live in Warsaw.
How long have you been at CodeControl & 9am and what do you do here?
I’ve been a Product Designer here since September 2022, and I’m the first full time person focused on design. I’m currently working on the new website and directing the redesign of the 9am site. The first release of the 9am site was recently launched, and it will be released in iterations. I started with an audit for it and coming soon will be blogs and webinar pages aligning with the new identity. It’s been great working on all of it.
How did you get into this kind of work?
Before joining CodeControl & 9am, for the past 5-6 years I was in product and graphic design. I studied HR in university and after one year I decided it wasn’t for me, so I switched to graphic design which I had done since age 14 with exploring Photoshop and always liked it. I found clients, got freelance work, and tried to educate myself and learn new skills. I then got work in Warsaw in printing houses, and later in a marketing agency doing visuals and animations, where I was able to connect all the dots with visual and 3D design. When I got a project in web design I decided that that was where I wanted to focus - the flexibility of it, to use my knowledge and expertise, create the identity and visuals from scratch, create animations, implement these into code, make something from scratch and the whole process.
How do you describe working here?
I love the environment and transparency in the company. The Founder shares details on everything about the company and plans, we have vibrant meetings, and a fun atmosphere joking around. The team is helpful, and I’m supported in anything I need help with on projects or with any advice. When I was looking for a new opportunity and offered the role, I decided to join due to my calls with different team members where I got a lot of detail and liked how the company and role were described.
What do you like best about remote work?
I can plan my day, do everything I need to do and not have any commute to an office. Organizing my time how it works best for me is what I really like. I’ve worked remotely for 5 years.
What is a day in your life like?
I don’t have a specific routine. I love playing the guitar, which I learned on my own from YouTube starting when I was 12 years old. I played in charity concerts in Ukraine as a kid, and now I just play at home when I have time or am in the mood. One artist I love is Sting. I have a bunny named Krosh who is around 2 years old and a lot of fun. My girlfriend and I fostered him, but then decided to adopt him as the owners didn’t want him back.
Book or podcast you recommend?
I read Animal Farm recently by George Orwell and that was great. I don’t listen to many podcasts.
Productivity or other app that you really like or recommend?
A nice minimalistic calendar that I started using recently is called Tweek.
What is something that you’re learning now or have learned recently?
Hubspot CMS related to the website creation since I joined here. Also, Ableton is a tool for music writing that I use, and I might release some electronic music someday online. I like a lot of different music, but Aphex Twin and Royksopp are two great ones.
Favorite place you’ve traveled?
I don’t travel much but Oslo, Norway was great for a couple of weeks.
Where do you want to travel that you haven’t been to yet?
Greece or Cyprus!
